Silver Cleaner

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz. fine salt
  • 1/2 oz. powdered alum
  • 1/2 oz. cream of tartar
  • 2 qt. water

Instructions

  1. Mix together the salt, powdered alum, and cream of tartar in a large white-ware pitcher.
  2. Pour in two quarts of water and stir until the mixture is dissolved.
  3. Transfer the mixture to clean bottles and cork them tightly.
  4. Before using, shake the bottles well.
  5. Pour some of the liquid into a bowl and wash the silver all over with an old, soft fine linen cloth.
  6. Let the silver stand for about 10 minutes.
  7. Rub the silver dry with a buckskin cloth to make it look like new.
