Ingredients

  • 1 large orange
  • 6 cloves
  • 1/2 to 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 bottle dry red wine (750 ml)

Instructions

  1. Stud the orange with cloves and bake it in a 350°F oven until the skin has browned, about 40 minutes.
  2. Cut the orange into quarters and place in a heavy saucepan with the sugar and water.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then reduce the heat and simmer, covered, about 20 minutes.
  4. Add the wine and heat until the mixture is steaming hot.
  5. Pour into a heated punch bowl and serve.
