Smothered tacos feature seasoned ground beef nestled in soft shells, topped with melty cheeses and flavorful toppings, perfect for a comforting and savory meal for family or friends.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean hamburger
  • 1 pkg. taco seasoning
  • 1 pkg. soft taco shells
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 lb. Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 lb. Cheddar cheese
  • 1 c. chopped green onions
  • 1 c. chopped black olives
  • 1 c. chopped jalapeno peppers

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground hamburger until browned; drain well.
  2. Add taco seasoning to the cooked beef and let it simmer for approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Fill each taco shell with the seasoned meat, then fold the edges and hold with toothpicks.
  4. Arrange the filled tacos in a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  5. Pour both cans of tomato sauce over the tacos.
  6. Sprinkle Monterey Jack cheese, Cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, black olives, and jalapeno peppers (if using) over the tacos.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
