  • 1 c. orange juice
  • 1 c. sugar
  • dash of salt
  • angel food cake
  • 1 qt. Cool Whip

  2. Add boiling water, lemon juice, orange juice, sugar, and a dash of salt; mix well and refrigerate until set.
  3. Bake angel food cake and allow it to cool.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract to the gelatin mixture. If you want to make it a bit healthier, you can substitute some of the sugar with honey or a sugar alternative. To save time, use store-bought angel food cake. Ensure the gelatin is fully dissolved to avoid clumps in the final dish.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Snowball Cake chilled for the best texture. It pairs wonderfully with fresh fruit like strawberries or blueberries for a pop of color and flavor. Consider serving it alongside a light dessert wine or a refreshing iced tea to enhance the overall experience, making it perfect for gatherings.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Avoid freezing the cake, as the texture may become compromised. If you need to reassemble, layer the chilled cake with Cool Whip just before serving to maintain its freshness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this cake ahead of time?

Absolutely! This Snowball Cake is best made the night before, allowing the flavors to meld and the gelatin to set properly. Just keep it refrigerated until you're ready to serve.

Can I use a different type of cake instead of angel food cake?

Yes, you can substitute angel food cake with a sponge cake or pound cake, but keep in mind that it will alter the texture and sweetness of the dish. Just ensure the cake is light enough to complement the creamy layers.

Is there a way to make this recipe vegan?

To make a vegan version, you can substitute the gelatin with agar-agar and use a plant-based whipped topping in place of Cool Whip. Additionally, ensure that the cake is made with vegan ingredients, which can easily be found at many grocery stores.
