- Add cold water to the raisins and boil 10 minutes.
- Add the shortening and let cool.
- Sift together the sugar, spices, flour and salt.
- Add nuts and the cooled mixture.
- Add the beaten egg and blend well.
- Bake for 35 minutes at 350° in two 10 x 15-inch pans.
