- Drain the mandarin oranges, reserving the juice, and add water to make 1 3/4 cups of liquid.
- Place the liquid in a saucepan; add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and salt, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Let the mixture steep for 10 minutes, then strain out the spices.
- Dissolve the orange gelatin in the hot water mixture, then add 2 cups of cold water and lemon juice.
- Chill until the gelatin is partially set.
- Fold in the drained mandarin oranges and chopped walnuts.
- Pour the mixture into a mold and chill until firm before serving.
