Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening (or oil)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Add the last 1/2 cup boiling water and stir until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into an 11 x 7-inch pan.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 45 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
