Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 2/3 to 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Sift flour with salt and baking powder.
  2. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add milk and mix just until the dough follows a fork around the bowl.
  4. Turn out on a lightly floured surface; knead gently for 2 minutes.
  5. Roll or pat the dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  6. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 450°F.
  7. Cook for 10 minutes.
