Sugared Yams are a sweet, tender side dish featuring caramelized yams cooked in a pineapple-infused syrup with a hint of nutmeg, perfect for holiday dinners or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 8 uncooked yams
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • dash of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Combine water, pineapple juice, and sugar in a pot and heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add margarine and a dash of nutmeg to the syrup.
  3. Peel and slice the yams into thick slices.
  4. Drop the sliced yams into the boiling syrup.
  5. Cover the pot and simmer until the yams are tender and transparent.
