Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 cup water (105-115°F)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 3 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in water.
  2. Add sugar, oil, and salt to the yeast mixture.
  3. Add three cups of flour; mix well.
  4. Add enough flour to make a nice soft dough and knead for 8 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl.
  6. Let rise until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough.
  8. Divide the dough into 3 equal parts.
  9. Roll out each part into strands approximately 10 x 14 inches long.
  10. Braid the three strands and place on a baking sheet either straight or crescent-shaped.
  11. Let the braided dough rise until doubled.
  12. Bake at 400°F until golden brown.
