Ingredients

  • 9 pt. tomatoes
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 8 slices bread

Instructions

  1. Scald the tomatoes and remove their skins.
  2. Quarter the tomatoes and cook until soft and well separated, about 20 minutes.
  3. Add sugar, salt, and broken-up bread to the cooked tomatoes.
  4. Cook for another 10 minutes, stirring often.
  5. Ensure the tomatoes are simmering on medium heat and do not burn.
  6. The sauce is ready for jars at this point.
