Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons ice water

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. Using a pastry blender or fork, cut shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of water at a time while tossing and mixing with a fork.
  4. Add water until the dough is moist enough to form a ball when lightly pressed together.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and flatten it into a 1/2-inch thick disk, smoothing and rounding the edges.
