Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp yeast
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 2 cups boiling water

Instructions

  1. Dissolve 4 tablespoons of yeast and 2 tablespoons of sugar in 2 cups of lukewarm water.
  2. Stir sugar and salt into the yeast mixture.
  3. Add 4 beaten eggs and stir well.
  4. Add 2 cups of dissolved shortening in boiling water and mix.
  5. Add 12 cups of plain flour and mix thoroughly.
  6. Cover with foil and set aside in a warm place for 2 hours, until the dough doubles in size.
  7. Punch down the dough.
  8. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into rolls.
  9. Dip half of each roll in melted oleo (butter) and fold over like an envelope.
  10. Place on baking sheets.
  11. Let the rolls rise for 2 hours.
  12. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes.
  13. Brush the baked rolls with melted oleo.
