Ingredients

  • 1 package fudge-striped cookies
  • 1 package Oreos
  • 2 packages jumbo gum drops
  • 1 package candy corn
  • 1 can chocolate icing

Instructions

  1. Take one Oreo cookie and apply icing on the back of one side.
  2. Press a fudge-striped cookie (stripes pointing up) against the iced side of the Oreo.
  3. Spread icing on the bottom of a jumbo gum drop and place it on top of the Oreo.
  4. Dip the large end of a candy corn in icing and position it on the front side of the gum drop to form the beak.

Tips & Substitutions

For best results, use fresh jumbo gum drops and ensure your icing is at room temperature for easier spreading. If you don't have fudge-striped cookies, vanilla wafer cookies can be a good substitute. To add a twist, consider using chocolate icing from a different brand or even making your own. These turkey cookies can also be made with vegan recipes by using dairy-free icing and cookies.

Serving Suggestions

These turkey cookies are perfect for holiday gatherings and can be served as a fun dessert or snack. Pair them with Cathy'S Hot Chocolate Mix for a delightful treat on a chilly day. They also make great centerpieces for a festive table. Consider serving alongside a fresh fruit salad(Myrtle Mclean'S) for a balanced offering.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover turkey cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If they become too soft, you can refrigerate them to maintain their shape, but be aware that the icing may harden. Avoid freezing, as it can alter the texture of the cookies and icing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these cookies ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the cookies a day in advance. Assemble them and store them in an airtight container. Just add the candy corn beaks right before serving to ensure they stay fresh and appealing.

What can I use instead of candy corn for the beak?

If you don't have candy corn, consider using a small piece of dried fruit, like apricot or a small slice of a gummy candy. These alternatives will still give a pop of color and a fun look to your turkey cookies.

How do I make this recipe gluten-free?

To make turkey cookies gluten-free, substitute regular Oreos and fudge-striped cookies with gluten-free versions available at most grocery stores. Be sure to check the labels to ensure all ingredients are gluten-free.
