- Measure warm water into large mixing bowl.
- Sprinkle on yeast; stir until it looks soft.
- Add sugar, salt, and flour; mix and knead dough until soft and no longer sticky.
- Take a small ball of dough the size of an egg.
- Roll the dough between the palms of your hands or on the tabletop until it is as long as a snake.
- Twist the snake into a pretzel, letters, numbers, or any shape.
- Grease cookie sheets.
- Place twisted pretzels or designs on cookie sheets.
- Brush pretzels with beaten egg; sprinkle with sesame seed or coarse salt.
- Bake at 425°F for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden.
- Let cool.
