Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 4 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. Combine lukewarm water and sugar in a bowl, then sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add salt to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add bread flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  8. Place the loaf in a greased bread pan or on a baking sheet.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, until golden brown.
  10. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
