Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup dairy sour cream
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup quartered candied cherries

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, sour cream, milk, butter, corn syrup, and salt in a heavy 1-quart saucepan.
  2. Stir over moderate heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture reaches a boil.
  3. Boil over moderate heat for 9 to 10 minutes until it reaches 238°F (soft ball stage).
  4. Remove from heat and let stand until lukewarm, about 1 hour.
  5. Add vanilla and beat until the mixture just begins to lose its gloss and holds its shape.
  6. Quickly stir in chopped nuts and quartered candied cherries.
  7. Turn the mixture into an oiled pan and let stand until firm before cutting.
