Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening in a bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Add sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating continuously.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating until light and fluffy.
  4. Add flour and milk alternately, beating well after each addition and adding baking powder and salt with the last flour addition.
  5. Beat in flavoring and continue beating for 3 minutes.
  6. Pour batter into a greased, waxed, paper-lined tube pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until the cake tests done.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes and remove from pan to a cooling rack.
