Crunchy, chocolate-topped saltines with buttery sweetness create a delightful treat perfect for sharing at gatherings or as a satisfying snack anytime.

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 40 saltines

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Add sugar to the melted butter and bring to a boil.
  4. Cook the mixture for exactly 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Pour the hot butter-sugar mixture over a single layer of saltines in a large greased shallow baking pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate morsels over the hot surface.
  8. Wait about 5 minutes until the morsels melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the surface.
  9. Allow to cool completely, then break into pieces to serve.
