Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. seedless raisins
  • 1 c. sweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda in 2 Tbsp. hot water

Instructions

  1. Blend shortening, sugar and egg.
  2. Add raisins and applesauce. Sift spices and salt with flour.
  3. Add in several portions. Before last of the flour, add soda dissolved in the water.
  4. Beat well.
  5. Bake in 9 x 13-inch pan in 350° oven for 30 to 45 minutes or until done.
