Ingredients

  • 6 c. warm water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 c. oil
  • 8 tsp. salt
  • 14 to 16 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Mix water, sugar and yeast lightly.
  2. Let set 10 minutes.
  3. Beat eggs and oil together.
  4. Add to yeast mixture along with salt. Then add 6 cups flour and stir with wooden spoon.
  5. Add 6 more cups of flour and stir well.
  6. Add more flour to make a workable dough (2 to 4 cups).
  7. Knead dough.
  8. Let it raise until double in size; punch down.
  9. Let it raise again.
  10. Dump out and cut with sharp knife into 5 loaves.
  11. Work the air out of each and put in greased loaf pans.
  12. Cover with a towel.
  13. Let them rise.
  14. Bake 10 minutes at 400°, then 25 minutes at 350°.
  15. Brush hot tops with butter for soft crust.
