Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • a dash of salt
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange rind
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, flour, and salt in a double boiler.
  2. Add orange juice, water, and well-beaten egg to the mixture.
  3. Place over rapidly boiling water and cook for 10 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat; add butter and grated orange rind.
  5. Cool the mixture before spreading between cake layers.
