Andy'S Dutch Beans combine savory bacon, sweet brown sugar, and hearty beans for a flavorful, comforting dish perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 8 strips bacon
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 (20 oz.) cans white kidney beans
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons catsup
  • garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon until not quite done; drain and set aside.
  2. Saute chopped onions in 2 or 3 tablespoons of bacon fat until translucent.
  3. Wash one can of white kidney beans; leave the other can as is.
  4. Pour the unstrained can of beans into a large frying pan.
  5. Add brown sugar; stir until sugar is melted.
  6. Add onions and the other can of beans to the pan.
  7. Flake the cooked bacon and add it to the mixture.
  8. Stir in catsup, garlic powder, chili powder, and salt.
  9. Simmer the mixture for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
