Ingredients

  • 1 pint milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • dash of salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 envelope gelatin
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 pint whipped cream
  • 4 egg whites
  • 16 ounces angel food cake

Instructions

  1. Mix milk, egg yolks, sugar, flour, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cook the mixture in the top of a double boiler until it coats the back of a spoon.
  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.
  4. Dissolve gelatin in 1/4 cup water and add to the custard mixture.
  5. Allow the custard to cool.
  6. Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  7. Fold whipped cream into the cooled custard.
  8. Layer the custard mixture over slices of angel food cake and refrigerate until set.
