Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar

Instructions

  1. Cream together Crisco and sugars.
  2. Stir in egg and vanilla.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, soda, and cream of tartar, then mix well into creamed ingredients.
  4. Chill the dough overnight or for a few hours.
  5. Roll into small balls about the size of hickory nuts. Press down slightly with a fork.
  6. Bake in a 400° oven for 8 to 10 minutes until delicately browned.
  7. Loosen cookies from the pan while still warm.
