Ingredients

  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 pound brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

Instructions

  1. Add lard or Crisco to the mixture and blend as for pie dough.
  2. Add sour milk and baking soda to the mixture and combine well.
  3. If the batter is too moist, add more flour until the desired consistency is reached.
  4. Pour the batter into a prepared baking pan and bake at 350°F until cooked through, about 30 minutes.
