Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 c. chopped celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. ground sage
  • 1/4 tsp. dried thyme
  • 2 Tbsp. parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp. vegetable broth mix
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, unpeeled and chopped
  • 6 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
  • 1/2 c. water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion, chopped celery, and minced garlic to the skillet.
  4. Saute until tender, then remove from heat.
  5. Sprinkle poultry seasoning, ground sage, dried thyme, and vegetable broth mix over the onion mixture.
  6. Stir to blend.
  7. Add chopped Granny Smith apple and bread cubes to the mixture.
  8. Toss the stuffing, gradually adding water until the bread is just moistened. Add more water if a moister stuffing is desired.
  9. Place the stuffing in a lightly oiled 1-quart baking dish.
  10. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
