Ingredients

  • 4 cups sliced tart apples
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Mound sliced apples in a buttered 9-inch pie plate and sprinkle with orange juice.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter or margarine until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Scatter the topping over the apples.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes or until apples are done and topping is crisp and lightly browned.
  6. Serve warm with light cream or vanilla ice cream.
