Ingredients

  • vegetable cooking spray
  • 4 medium cooking apples
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • salt
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp margarine
  • lo-cal sweetener

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Spray the bottom of an 8 x 8-inch baking dish with vegetable cooking spray.
  3. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples.
  4. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt using a rubber spatula.
  5. Arrange the apple mixture in the prepared baking dish.
  6. In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt using a fork.
  7. Cut in the margarine with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  8. Sprinkle the flour-margarine mixture over the apples.
  9. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the crust is golden and apples are tender.
  10. Immediately sprinkle lo-cal sweetener over the crust before serving.
