- Mix dry cake mix, softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until crumbly.
- Reserve 2/3 cup of the crumbly mixture.
- Press the remaining crumbly mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13 x 9-inch rectangular pan.
- Arrange thinly sliced cooking apples over the crumbly mixture in the pan.
- Beat sour cream and egg until blended; spread over the apples.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumbly mixture over the top.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the topping is light brown.
- Allow to cool before serving.
