Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • pie crust (thin)
  • 8 cups apples, peeled and sliced fine
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 1 1/5 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 stick margarine or butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix 3 cups flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 cup milk, 1 cup shortening, and 2 Tbsp sugar until dough forms.
  3. Roll dough into a thin sheet and line a sheet pan with it.
  4. In another bowl, combine 8 cups sliced apples, 1 1/2 cups sugar, 2 Tbsp flour, 1 1/5 tsp cinnamon, and 1/2 stick margarine or butter; toss until coated.
  5. Pour apple mixture over the crust, spreading evenly.
  6. Dribble any remaining butter or margarine over the top of the apples.
  7. Bake for 35–45 minutes, until the crust is golden and apples are tender.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
