Ingredients

  • long grain or basmati rice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 12 cardamom seeds
  • water

Instructions

  1. Wash rice in several changes of water.
  2. Pour on fresh water and let soak for 1/2 hour. Drain.
  3. Place rice, salt, turmeric, cardamom seeds, cinnamon stick, and bay leaves in a heavy pot.
  4. Cover with 1-inch of water and cook until rice is tender and water is absorbed.
