Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1 scant c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 c. all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar, salt, and shortening; pour hot water over and stir until blended and dissolved.
  2. Cool the mixture.
  3. Sprinkle yeast over warm water (sprinkle a little sugar over to make yeast foam more quickly).
  4. Beat eggs that have been at room temperature for 30 or more minutes.
  5. Blend all above ingredients together and add flours, mixing well.
  6. Adjust flour as needed to make a fairly stiff dough.
  7. Knead lightly on a floured board for 4 or 5 minutes.
  8. Put into a greased container, turning dough once.
  9. Cover and put in a warm place free from draft.
  10. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk.
