Ingredients

  • 8 to 10 apples, peeled, pared, and chopped
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. Peel, pare, and chop the apples.
  2. Mix the chopped apples with 3/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  3. Beat eggs, 1 1/4 cups sugar, and shortening until light and fluffy.
  4. Add flour, salt, and baking powder to the egg mixture and blend well.
  5. Gradually add milk to the mixture, stirring constantly.
  6. Fold in the apple mixture until evenly incorporated.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 10 x 13-inch baking pan.
  8. Sprinkle the top with a mixture of 3 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
