Ingredients

  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 1/3 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 3 Tbsp. ice water
  • 6 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. each ground cinnamon and grated lemon peel
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Make dough by sifting 1 cup flour and 1/3 teaspoon of salt into a bowl.
  2. Add shortening with pastry blender until the consistency of coarse sand.
  3. Sprinkle with ice water and toss until balls of dough are formed.
  4. Form into a ball and chill one hour.
