Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. elbow macaroni
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 3/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 lb. Cheddar, grated
  • 1/3 bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions and drain.
  2. Melt butter in a heavy saucepan.
  3. Blend in flour.
  4. Slowly stir in milk and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
  5. Add salt, pepper, and grated cheese, stirring until cheese melts.
  6. Combine cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce and transfer to a buttered 1-quart casserole.
  7. Mix bread crumbs with melted butter.
  8. Sprinkle bread crumb mixture over the macaroni.
  9. Bake in a 400° oven for 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
