Ingredients

  • 5 3/4 to 6 3/4 cups unsifted flour
  • 1/3 cup instant nonfat dry milk solids
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup softened oleo
  • 2 cups very warm tap water (120-130°F)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix 2 cups of flour, dry milk solids, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add the softened oleo to the dry ingredients.
  3. Gradually add very warm tap water (120-130°F) to the dry ingredients and beat for 2 minutes at medium speed of an electric mixer, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  4. Add 3/4 cup of flour and beat at high speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  5. Stir in enough additional flour to make a stiff dough.
  6. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease the top.
  8. Cover and let rise in a warm place, free from drafts, until doubled in bulk, about 45 minutes.
