Basic Refrigerator Rolls Or Loaves

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 c. cold water
  • 7 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Combine 1/2 cup lukewarm water, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 2 packages of yeast in a large bowl.
  2. Let rest for 5 to 7 minutes until bubbly.
  3. Mix 1/2 cup sugar with 2 tablespoons shortening in a large bowl until creamy.
  4. Stir well to combine.
  5. Pour 1 cup boiling water over the mixture until dissolved.
  6. Add 1 cup cold water and 1 egg to the mixture.
  7. Beat well, then add the yeast mixture.
  8. Add 2 1/2 teaspoons salt and 1/3 cup milk; mix well.
  9. Add 6 cups of flour and mix thoroughly.
  10. Let rest for 5 minutes before proceeding.
