Ingredients

  • 2 pkg yeast
  • 2 c lukewarm water
  • 2 large Shredded Wheat biscuits
  • 1 egg
  • 1 (10 1/2 oz) can bean and bacon soup
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 c molasses
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 c salad oil or melted shortening
  • 7 c flour

Instructions

  1. Combine yeast, lukewarm water, and Shredded Wheat biscuits in a bowl.
  2. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  3. Beat egg and bean and bacon soup with a mixer.
  4. Add the egg mixture to the yeast mixture.
  5. Add brown sugar, molasses, salt, and salad oil or melted shortening.
  6. Mix until smooth.
  7. Beat in 2 cups of flour.
  8. Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough ball.
  9. Knead the dough, adding more flour if needed, until smooth and elastic.
  10. Place in a greased bowl and let rise for 1 hour.
  11. Punch down the dough and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Turn out the dough onto a floured breadboard.
  13. Divide into 3 loaves and let rest for 10 minutes.
  14. Let the loaves rise until almost level with the pan.
  15. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes.
