- Take a cup and a half of beans, wash, cover with water. Add
- a tablespoon
- of salt;
- soak for at least three hours or overnight. Put beans in 2 1/2-quarts of water and boil slowly for 2
- 1/2
- to 3 hours.
- Add chunks of ham or beef.
- Salt and pepper
- to taste. Cook for 2 1/2 to 3 hours more.
- Add tomatoes,
- onion,
- garlic, lemon juice, green pepper and macaroni. Cook for 30 minutes. Serve with hot sliced French bread and a tossed salad.
