Beef-Cabbage Bake

Ingredients

  • 1 c. rice (uncooked)
  • 2 1/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
  • 6 to 8 c. chopped cabbage
  • 30 oz. chopped tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Cook rice in boiling water for 20 minutes, until the rice is tender.
  2. Cook ground beef and onions until the onions are tender and the meat is no longer pink; drain off the fat.
  3. Combine cooked and drained rice and ground meat mixture with Worcestershire sauce and seasoned salt.
  4. Butter a 3-quart casserole.
  5. Place 1/2 of the chopped cabbage for the first layer.
  6. Pour 1/3 of the tomatoes over cabbage.
  7. Next, place meat mixture and the rest of the cabbage.
  8. Press down some and add the rest of the tomatoes.
  9. You may sprinkle salt, pepper, Italian seasoning or basil if you desire.
  10. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour.
