Ingredients

  • 1 qt. milk
  • 10 Tbsp. sugar
  • 8 Tbsp. Mazola oil
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 7 Tbsp. dry yeast
  • 4 c. white flour
  • 4 c. whole wheat flour

Instructions

  1. Pour the scalded and slightly cooled milk into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the sugar, Mazola oil, salt, and nutmeg to the milk and stir well.
  3. Add the dry yeast last and let it activate for a few minutes.
  4. Add the white flour and whole wheat flour to the mixture and knead with dough hooks until well blended.
  5. Turn out the dough onto a floured board and knead by hand until manageable.
  6. Roll out the dough to a 1/2-inch thickness.
  7. Cut out doughnut shapes and let them rise for 5 minutes.
  8. Deep fry the doughnuts in Mazola oil at 375°F until golden brown.
  9. Drain the doughnuts on paper towels.
  10. Frost the doughnuts and dip in slivered almonds, chopped nuts, or coconut.
