- In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar.
- Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in milk until just combined.
- Turn onto a floured board, knead for one minute.
- Roll or pat dough to 1/2 inch thickness.
- Cut with a floured 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.
- Place on a greased baking sheet and bake at 450°F for 10-12 minutes.
