Boiled Country Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 lb. cabbage, cleaned and chopped medium
  • 1 small onion, chopped fine
  • 1 small green pepper, chopped fine
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 small carrot, shredded and chopped fine
  • 1 c. bacon bits or ham bits
  • 3 Tbsp. salt
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 qt. water

Instructions

  1. Combine the onions,
  2. green pepper, carrot, bacon or ham bits, salt and sugar.
  3. Add
  4. to the boiling water.
  5. Cook for 10 minutes. Add chopped
  6. cabbage
  7. and cook for 20 to 25 minutes. A small amount of
  8. water
  9. may
  10. have
  11. to be added if cabbage is going to be cooked longer.
  12. Serves 8 to 10.
