Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 medium egg
  • 2 c. flour
  • water

Instructions

  1. Mix salt and flour in a bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening until the mixture is fine and crumbly.
  3. Beat the egg in a measuring cup.
  4. Add water to the egg to make a total of one cup of liquid.
  5. Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well to moisten.
  6. Turn out the dough onto a floured board and knead about 10 times.
  7. Roll the dough until about 1/4-inch thick, adding flour to the rolling pin and surface as needed.
  8. Cut the dough into 1-inch squares.
  9. Drop the squares into boiling broth and cook for about 20 minutes until chewy and ready.
