Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • about 1 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
  2. Cut shortening into flour, baking powder, and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  3. Stir in yeast mixture and just enough buttermilk until dough leaves the sides of the bowl and forms a ball.
  4. Knead for 1 minute or until smooth.
  5. Cover; let rest for 10 minutes.
