Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup corn oil or butter
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Blend corn oil and sifted flour together in a bowl.
  2. Add milk and egg to the mixture.
  3. Beat with a rotary beater until smooth; batter will be thin.
  4. Dry the onions thoroughly, then coat generously with unseasoned flour.
  5. Dip the floured onions into the batter, letting excess drip off.
  6. Fry in hot oil at 375°F in a skillet or heavy skillet, with oil about one inch deep and the pan not more than one-third full.
  7. Fry until golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper towels before serving.
