Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Crisco
  • 5 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons white Karo
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup sweet milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix 2 1/2 cups sugar, Crisco, margarine, Karo, salt, and sweet milk in a large saucepan.
  2. Stir until dissolved over low heat.
  3. Place 1/2 cup sugar in a heavy pan and stir until it browns and turns to syrup.
  4. Add 3/4 cup water to the syrup and stir.
  5. Keep on low heat until the lumps dissolve.
  6. Add the syrup to the first mixture and cook until it forms a soft ball in cold water.
  7. Add vanilla, cool, and beat well.
