- Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
- Sift flour and baking powder into a medium bowl.
- Cut margarine into the flour mixture to form a fine crumble.
- Make a well in the center; add milk and raisins.
- Gently knead the mixture together, being careful not to overmix. The dough will be sticky.
- On a generously floured surface, roll out the dough to 3/4 inch thickness.
- Use a pastry cutter to cut out scones.
- Transfer the scones to the prepared pan and brush tops with the beaten egg yolk.
- Let stand for 15 minutes.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until risen and lightly golden on top.
- Remove from oven and transfer to a rack to cool.
