Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream butter with sugar to which cocoa has been well mixed.
  2. Add in order: well-beaten egg yolks, coffee, flour and buttermilk in which soda has been dissolved, vanilla, and well-beaten egg whites.
  3. Bake in two 9-inch layers in a moderate 350° oven for 40 minutes, until done.
